WE ZIJN ER BIJNA / ARE WE THERE YET? (2021—ongoing)
Growing up isn’t always a straight path — sometimes it takes us by surprise, while we’re trying our best to stay where we are. Other times, a year has passed before we even noticed. As a child, I longed for adulthood and if Im not careful, I lose that longing along the way.
‘WE ZIJN ER BIJNA’ emerged from that tension: the desire to grow up, and the fear of losing our sense of wonder, playfulness, and the way we once saw the world. Using archival and recent footage of my friends and family, this resulted into a mixed-media installation that reflects on that fear — and asks: Can we still be children?
This is a contiously growing archive. The installation was made for the Tussen Ons In exhibition at The Gallery Lane, Breda NL.
